When is it best to get a massage during pregnancy?

Simple answer.....there is no best time, any time is good for a massage!

Of course, you may be suffering with areas such as sore hips, sides of the thighs, lower back, particularly as your pregnancy progresses, so many mums-to-be tend to seek treatment when something is getting too sore to ignore.

However, muscular and/or joint aches and pains can affect different people at different stages of pregnancy. Alot of the issues are related to the change in your centre of gravity and pelvic position as your bump grows and puts additional strain on your lower back.

The level of the hormone Relaxin in your system changes during the pregnancy too, potentially making some of your ligaments more lax and meaning your muscles have to work a bit harder to stabilise your pelvis and lower back.

You may not be doing the same amount or type of exercise you were doing pre-pregnancy and of course, as your bump gets bigger, sleep positions become more limited and your hips and sides of your legs can get sore and achy from lying on your side all the time.

A lot of these issues can be addressed by seeing a trained pregnancy massage therapist such as myself. You can have a massage right up to your delivery date and I can also recommend some techniques your birth partner can use during labour to help ease your surges.

Even if you are lucky enough to go through pregnancy with no aches and pains, then a massage is an excellent way of taking some time out for yourself (a rarity if you already have little ones!) and helps reduce stress and anxiety levels, improve digestion and sleep quality.

So, make now the right time to get a massage and get in touch with me to make an appointment.

Helping you feel better in your body, whatever stage of pregnancy you are at.
